VFW Silver State Post 3396- Our Bataan Memorial Death March Mission
The VFW Post 3396 in cooperation with Nevada Veterans and Military are looking for interested parties that would be interested in Marching in the 2019 Bataan Memorial Death March in New Mexico. On behalf of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Silver State Post 3396 and its Auxiliary we are excited to announce we are accepting donations for Nevada Veterans to attend the 30th Anniversary of the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a challenging march through the high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range. The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health, and, in many cases, their very lives. Our Bataan mission shows our Warfighters they will never be forgotten. As we will send groups of veterans who will be assigned to five person teams of marchers or runners to this event. We will encourage camaraderie and team building as each team will be required to complete the 26 miles as a team within 20 seconds of each other. Participants competing in the Bataan will forever change their lives. Watching young and old, Veteran, Wounded Warriors, or civilians run/march through 26 miles of desert at altitudes from 4200’ to 5000’ reminds one of the determination of the American spirit. It gives you faith in this country no matter what comes against us. Please don’t just look at sponsorship as “what will it do for my organization or company?” But also look at it from the perspective of the actual survivors and present Warfighters. Team Sponsorships start at $500.00 which will provide the required registration fee for each team to attend this event. We are looking for additional sponsors to assist in the transportation expenses it will require each team to attend. All donations can be sent to the VFW Silver State Post 3396 will receive the charitable contribution as a 501(c)(3). *****This is not a Fundraiser - It is a bonding camraderi event for Veterns and Supporters ******************* The teams will consist of: * Teams must consist of 5 members, no more, no less. * All team members must cross finish line within 20 seconds of each other. * Minimum age to participate is 9-years-old, and must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or a member of the family who is 18 years or older. During the Bataan Memorial Death March, you will experience miles & miles of high desert! Learn more about the course below! From the start line (blue star at the south end of the map), the routes go counterclockwise. The numerically-marked (1-12) blue drops indicate the water points. The red stars indicate medical stations. The 14.2-mile route is essentially the lower portion of the 26.2 mile course. On the 26.2-mile course, the route proceeds northwest from Water Point 4/8, circling a small mountain known as Mineral Hill. Returning to Water Station 4/8, marchers travel south along the paved road covered earlier in the route. The course then veers west along dirt and sand trails, coming up the backside of the White Sands community and returning to the finish line. The area know as the “Sand Pit,” featuring deep sand, comes after Water Station 9. But, be aware, the dirt trails elsewhere along the route can be sandy and dusty as well. This is particularly true of the stretch between Water Station 1 and Water Station 3.T For more information on the March: http://bataanmarch.com/register/civilian-team-light/
